Roddy Ricch had one hell of a 2020 and it looks like his winning streak is continuing into 2021. According to Chart Data among other outlets, the recording artist’s already mega-successful “The Box” single has officially gone octuple platinum — that’s 8x platinum!

Since the song dropped in January 2020, it almost immediately made (radio) waves, and went on to break record after record. Ricch’s album that the track is featured on, Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial, even reached a major milestone. After being released in December 2019, the project made its way back to the top spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart the following month. This made it the first debut rap album to return to No. 1 in 15 years.

These achievements easily made Ricch’s stardom explode. He would go on to be featured last year’s Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list as well as be named Variety’s Breakout Artist of 2020 — not to mention he also made REVOLT’s first-ever Power 25 List!

Before the year wrapped up, the artist spoke about his plans for his sophomore album. “The next album is going to be a full blown masterpiece,” Ricch told GQ. “A real idea. A real body of work.” “It’s really not about it being ready or not ready. It’s more about the timing. I really just drop when I feel like it.”

Ricch also admitted that quarantine slowed him down a bit in terms of recording. “Maybe I make a little less music but I feel like for me right now less is more because then when I step in the booth I’ll say some crazy shit.

“I could work for two or three days and make fifty songs. And then I’ll step away for like a week,” he added. “Less is more. Spending more time figuring out how I feel and figuring out different things around me.”

Congrats on another W for the L.A. star.
