Exactly one year after the release of Jesus Is Born, Kanye West’s Sunday Service Choir has returned with an EP called Emmanuel, perhaps signaling the start of a Christmas tradition. The new five-song project was executive produced by Kanye West.

The 12-minute EP begins with the Western Christian prayer, “Requiem Aeternam,” or “Eternal Rest”. “O Mira Nox” follows, which roughly translates to “O Holy Night.” According to the project’s press release, the five-track EP “introduces a composition of a new sound, inspired by ancient and Latin music.” On the cover of the EP is a white dove flying in front of a white sphere. In Christianity, the dove symbolizes the Holy Spirit. The aforementioned Jesus Is Born project was nominated earlier this year for Rap/Hip Hop Album of the Year, Traditional Gospel Album of the Year and Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year for his single “Follow God” at the Dove Awards.

As previously covered by REVOLT, Kanye West has planned to bring Sunday Service all across not just the nation, but the globe as well. Last fall, Kanye and his choir performed for over 45,000 people at Osteen’s Houston megachurch and also brought the spiritual performance to Jamaica last October. Pre-pandemic, he also was reportedly planning a carrying out a choir-assisted tour to various countries across Europe and Africa. On Easter this year, he streamed a pre-recorded Sunday Service for worldwide listeners to tune into, which was actually a last-minute change from a live performance schedule for that day.

This year, Kanye dropped off his single “Nah Nah Nah (Remix)” featuring DaBaby and 2Chainz. He also can be heard dishing out guest features on projects like Ty Dolla $ign’s Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red, 2 Chainz’s So Help Me God!, and SAINt JHN’s While The World Was Burning.
