More than 11 years after Notorious was released, Lil Kim is still not happy with the actress that was chosen to play her in the movie and how she was portrayed on screen.
In a recent interview on REVOLT’s “The Fat Joe Show,” the Queen Bee spoke about how she still hates the film and did not like who played her character. “Yeah, no. No. I hate that movie. To me, it was like a spoof,” the “Crush on You” emcee admitted.
She added, “It was something that I would have never approved. I didn’t like who played me. No. No, no, no, no.”
In the 2009 film, “Power” actress and former 3LW singer, Naturi Naughton, played Kim, but the Brooklyn rapper says that she wanted to give the role to an up and coming actress from her hometown.
“I would go to Brooklyn and find a girl within that period that I feel represents Brooklyn, knows what it’s like to grow up in Brooklyn,” Kim explained. “And then once I got in the movie, and I get a little older, I would play myself from that stage. But from that point, I gotta go to Brooklyn and give some little girl from Brooklyn a chance to really, really show, I know who Lil Kim is for real.”
Kim also said that Naturi looked nothing like her and did not reach out to her before shooting the movie.
Before the film was even released to the public, the rap legend made it known that she wasn’t pleased with how it turned out.
“The film studio and producers involved were more concerned about painting me as a ‘character’ to create a more interesting storyline instead of a person with talent, self-respect and who was able to achieve her own career success through hard work,” she said back in 2009.
“Even though my relationship with Big was at times very difficult and complicated (as with most relationships we have all experienced at one time or another), it was also genuine and built on great admiration and love for each other. Regardless of the many lies in the movie and false portrayal of me to help carry a story line through, I will still continue to carry his legacy through my hard work and music.”
