The Ruff Ryders are teaming up with George Floyd’s family in the name of social justice. According to a recent Instagram post, the group’s Ruff Ryders to the Rescue Foundation has collaborated with Floyd’s brother Philonese Floyd and his wife, Keeta, to host a bike ride on Saturday (May 22) in Houston, Texas. The ride is intended to honor the late DMX and Floyd, and to help encourage the passing of the George Floyd Policing Act.

The bill named in honor of the man who was suffocated to death last year by former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin intends to reform the current system of policing.

The legislation includes provisions that require officers to wear body cameras, prohibits the use of chokeholds and forbids the issuance of no-knock warrants among other things.

“Over the past decade, most of the Black culture has suffered behind police brutality without justice,” the foundation wrote on Instagram. “We’ve watched countless viral videos of sisters and brothers senselessly beaten and gunned down by law enforcement. It’s time to end this cycle. We’re striving for the passing of this bill to help end police brutality in our culture and begin to hold law enforcement accountable.”

The bike ride aligns with the foundation’s vision to support “individuals and organizations that serve and understand the needs of urban communities.” Per the caption to the post, it is also a way to continue on the work of DMX, who was “the voice of strength, hope and courage in the streets throughout the Black community.”

The event will start at 10 a.m. CST with bike riders meeting up two hours earlier. T-shirts will also be available for sale; the proceeds will go to the foundation’s campaign to end police brutality.
