It’s been nine months since George Floyd’s life ended at the hands of former police officer, Derek Chauvin. Since that dreadful day, the lives of people in both Floyd and Chauvin’s circles have been turned upside down including Chauvin’s ex-wife.

According to a report TMZ published Friday (Feb. 5), Chauvin’s ex-wife, Kellie, indicated that she no longer feels safe because of her ex-husband even after she left him. In the divorce documents she submitted, Kellie claimed that she hasn’t been able to maintain a full-time job since last May. She cites “safety concerns” as the reason, but she doesn’t clearly explain what those concerns are.

Kellie’s problems appear to have started after her ex-husband was filmed on camera holding Floyd down to the ground with his knee on the 46-year-old’s neck until he passed away. Derek’s ex-wife filed for divorce just two days after the Minneapolis police officer was charged with murder and manslaughter. At the time, Kellie asserted that she needed to consider her family’s safety and privacy.

However, back in July 2020, both Derek and Kellie were hit with nine charges of felony tax evasion charges. They had allegedly failed to report at least $464,433 in joint income. Due to the charges, a judge had originally rejected their first divorce settlement that was submitted last October. Now that the divorce is final, Derek’s ex-wife still doesn’t know what line of work she can find and has no clue when she’ll have another job.

While his ex-wife figures her life out, the murder trial of Derek is set to go down on March 8 in Minneapolis. He faces one count of second-degree murder and one count of manslaughter. The former cop had previously posted a $1 million-dollar bond and was released until the day of his trial. Although three other officers were arrested with him, Derek will be tried alone.
