LL Cool J is speaking out after another Black man was fatally gunned down by police officers in this country.
On Wednesday (Oct. 28), the Mama Said Knock You Out rapper took to Instagram Live to discuss the recent killing of Walter Wallace Jr. and the cops’ continued use of deadly force on Black people. As REVOLT previously reported, Wallace Jr. was fatally shot in front of his parents by Philadelphia police officers on Oct. 26.
His family said he suffered from mental illness and said they originally called an ambulance to come help him through his mental heath crisis. Instead, police came and shot him after they claimed he “advanced” towards them with a knife in his hand.
LL says he is tired of cops continuing to use deadly force on people. “I’m gon’ tell you the thing that gets a little irritating for me — I’m gon’ keep it a hundred,” he said. “You know, this idea that there’s no alternative to deadly force, I don’t understand that thought. Let me explain something to you guys and I’m gon’ keep it all the way a hundred.”
“Many of you heard the story about when the dude broke into my house,” he continued. “When that guy broke into my house, we had a fight at first, yes, but once I subdued him and I won the fight or whatever you want to call that, I could’ve killed him. I didn’t.”
The Queens, New York emcee also said that it’s “bullshit” cops don't use alternative ways to subdue people.
“They had enough distance to shoot,” he said. “They could’ve used the same amount of shots on the leg without the major arteries in it and got damn near the same effect. You know it and I know it. I’m not saying that they didn’t have — they had no right to shoot that man — but they didn’t have to murder, they didn’t have to kill that boy.”
