Chadwick Boseman fans are delighted and emotional after hearing the late star’s voice in the latest “What If…?” episode. A new installment of the animated Marvel series aired on Disney+ on Wednesday (Aug. 18), featuring voice acting by Boseman. The 43-year-old reprises his beloved T’Challa character but, as the “What If…?” series dares to imagine, goes on to become the Star-Lord instead of the Black Panther.

According to Entertainment Weekly, voice acting for the “What If…?” episode was Boseman’s last time playing T’Challa before he tragically died of colon cancer in 2020. On Twitter, fans reacted to hearing Boseman’s voice in the new episode.

“Hearing Chadwick Boseman’s voice on ‘What If…?’ was emotional,” one fan tweeted. “He had a lovely, soothing voice and he highlighted that here with such a wonderful performance. He truly was a remarkable performer taken too soon.”

“Chadwick Boseman voicing T’Challa on tonight’s episode was so heartwarming and emotional,” another person wrote. “His passion for this character always pushed through his performance. His legacy will live on forever.”

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Michael Rooker, who voice acts as his Yondu character in the “What If…” episode, reflected on Boseman’s last performance as T’Challa.

“It was beautifully written,” he said of the episode, adding, “[Boseman] becomes quite heroic.”

“We never got to hang out or speak together and work together on the project really… You do your part, and he does his part and it’s really quick. It took us several sessions but it was really a blast,” he said. “I had no idea that it ended up being his last performance. Boy oh boy, what a shame. What a loss. It was terrible. But the work, the legacy of the work is there for everyone to see.”
