Another best rappers list has sparked some debate on social media. On Tuesday (June 1), journalist Brian “B. Dot” Miller released names of the emcees he deems the “Top 10 Best Rappers of 2021.” The list — which is based on skill, performance and presence — highlights his choices halfway into the year and are subject to change.

Listed at No. 1 is Quality Control Music’s own Lil Baby, who along with J. Cole (No. 2) and Lil Wayne (No. 3) are B. Dot’s picks for the top three rappers of the year. Griselda boys Conway and Benny the Butcher are placed in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

The last five rappers in order are Drake, Freddie Gibbs — who dropped from his No. 1 placement on Miller’s 2020 list — Nas, JAY-Z and Jim Jones.

Per usual, Miller’s list stirred up some controversy, which included critiques about his exclusion of women emcees. Benny took to Twitter with claims that rappers were mad at him after seeing the list. Jones also chimed in on the conversation, reacting to his position as the No. 10 best emcee of the year and challenged all the other artists placed before him.

“I didn’t make this list, but tell @bdottm th[e} list is cute,” he wrote alongside a screenshot of B. Dot’s list. “I’ma start chopping this list down one by one lol. Matter fact, put me in th[e] booth wit[h] anyone of these artist, and let’s do it live. See who’s left standing. Th[a]t’s how we can really settle this shit. Like th[e] westerns, shoot th[e] booth up.

“Makin music is fun till [yo]u gotta go head to head,” he continued before explaining how the battle can be a money move. “I love competition. Anybody wanna rump let me know besides th[e] competition, we can make a serious bag. Turn this into a NFT and everybody walk away wit[h] a bag like a @floydmayweather fight. Ya’l[l] let me know if any of these artist accept th[e] challenge. I’m ready.”
