TIDAL has updated its platform to include features that will benefit artists and their consumers. On Wednesday (Nov. 17), the music streaming service announced that they will be offering new tiers, direct payouts and fan-centered royalties.

According to TIDAL, subscribers, who have long had access to more than 80 million songs and videos, will now be able to choose from three new tiers: a free tier, $10 HiFi and HiFi Plus. The free option features standard sound quality with occasional advertisements. The HiFi subscription offers ad-free streaming with HiFi sound quality and unlimited skips for $9.99/month. Last not but not least, HiFi Plus, which costs $19.99 monthly, will give patrons access to innovative audio formats and artist payment reports as well as the game-changing features: direct payouts and fan-centered royalties.

The introduction of direct payouts is intended to ensure that artists are directly benefiting from their music streams. In the program, every listener’s most-streamed artist will receive 10% of monthly Hi-Fi Plus subscriptions; an activity feed will track and inform consumers of the recipients who secured the coins.

Fans will also be able to directly support the artists they listen to with the new fan-centered royalties, which will be given to the musicians they stream. Records of the payments will also be tracked in the aforementioned activity feed.

“AT TIDAL, our goal is simple: create a place that is better for artists and their fans,” the music streaming service wrote in a statement. “Because we love music. And the artists who create it. And the fans who crave it. Our focus hasn’t changed and our commitment is only growing stronger.”

They continued, “We’re just getting started, and we’ll continue to share updates as we build new products and features for artists and fans.”
