LaSheena Weekly is pleading for peace in the city of Chicago, days after her son and rising rapper FBG Duck was killed in a drive-by shooting. The 26-year-old was slain in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood last Tuesday (Aug. 4).

“I am here today to ask for peace in the city of Chicago,” Weekly said during a press conference. “I am asking that his fans [and] friends of my son to please not seek retaliation in the death of my son.”

Duck was reportedly shopping for a birthday present for his young son when gunmen opened fire. His brother — FBG Brick — was also fatally shot in 2017.

“As his mother, I want to say please put the guns down so that the generation of tomorrow can grow and live a long and healthy life,” Weekly added.

The Chicago Police Department also issued a warning this week against possible violence. Safety alerts instructed teenagers and young adults to stay indoors over the weekend in case of retaliation for Duck’s death.

“Chicago Police have expressed concerns of a possible city-wide gang war in retaliation for Tuesday’s Gold Coast shooting of Chicago rapper [FBG] Duck,” an advisory message read.

The warning arrived amidst widespread looting and dozens of arrests that took place over the weekend in Chicago’s Gold Coast area. Police say the outrage was a response to the officer-involved shooting of a 20-year-old man, who is in a stable condition. As reported by REVOLT, over 100 people were arrested on Sunday (Aug. 9) and 13 officers were injured.

“This had nothing to do with protected First Amendment expression... What occurred in our downtown and surrounding communities was abject criminal behavior, pure and simple,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said during a press conference on Monday (Aug. 10). “This was straight-up felony criminal conduct.”
