Lauren London is speaking up about the effects of gun violence following the death of Nipsey Hussle.
On the latest episode of “Red Table Talk,” London sat down with Jada Pinkett Smith to discuss gun violence, the conversations she has with her children about police and more. The ATL actress is a mother to two sons – Kameron Carter, who she shares with Lil Wayne and Kross Asghedom, who she shares with the late rapper.
“What I instill in them is more about the police,” London said when asked about the lessons she teaches her children. “How to handle yourself when you get pulled over. That’s more of my education, protecting them being black men in America.”
Elsewhere during the interview, London opened up about her experience with gun violence, stemming from her days in high school. She explained that the trauma has shaped her outlook on life. “In high school, a lot of the boys were in gangs, and I remember that a lot of our friends, by summertime they were gone,” she recalled. “They had transitioned from gun violence. So you kind of got… I don’t want to say numb, but I’m used to hearing it.”
Back in March 2019, the Victory Lap rhymer was fatally shot outside his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles. Since then, London has done her best to keep Hussle’s memory alive. “I love to meet people that Nip has really inspired,” she confessed to the Set It Off actress when asked about the ways in which she remembers Hussle.
In addition to her recent interview, London has also used her platform to share a powerful message from Malcolm X in support of today’s climate. “That’s not a chip on my shoulder. That’s your foot on my neck,” the post read.
