Freddie Gibbs and Alchemist are teaming up on a new collaborative project called Alfredo. On Twitter, Gibbs revealed that the 10-track effort is set to arrive tonight at midnight (May 28).
“Tomorrow at 9 [pm] pst/12 pm est,” Gibbs tweeted on Wednesday (May 27).
The project will feature appearances from Rick Ross, Conway the Machine, Benny the Butcher and Tyler, the Creator. So far, Gibbs and Alchemist have released Alfredo’s first single, “1985.”
The producer and rap duo last joined forces with Curren$y on their 2018 joint project, Fetti. Earlier this year, Alchemist collaborated with Griselda rapper Conway the Machine on their album, LULU. His first full-length release of the year — a joint project with Boldy James called The Price of Tea in China — also saw appearances from Benny the Butcher and Gibbs.
Last year, Gibbs released his highly praised album Bandana in a collaborated effort with mega-producer, Madlib. Speaking with GQ before the project’s release, the Indiana native explained his versatility on the record.
“I’m not no boom-bap rapper or whatever the fuck that sh*t is. I’m not a trap rapper. You can’t really put me in a box, man,” he told the outlet. “I don’t really get into the categorical sh*t. If the beat’s hard, I’m gonna fu*k with it no matter who made it.”
“I know how to do things better rap-wise than I knew how to do five years ago. I know how to attack songs different. I don’t even write sh*t down. You ain’t gotta write sh*t down. I know how to, at this point, really corral my energy on the microphone,” he continued. “I can rap all day, all night. I can rap circles around anybody. And the more I rap, the more I learn about rap. The more I learn about music.”
Alfredo will also serve as a follow-up to Gibbs and Madlib’s instrumental version of Bandana, Bandana Beats. See Gibbs’ announcement and the album’s tracklist below.
