While everyone is still mourning from the tragic passing of Pop Smoke, Irv Gotti spoke about the high death rates within the hip hop community. While speaking with TooFab, Gotti said that only rappers are being murdered at a high rate, not artists from other genres.

“It’s sad, it really is sad,” Gotti said. “It happens in hip hop a lot. And it’s just—I wish our people was different. I wish our people would think for one second. It only happens in hip hop. And I don’t wish that on nobody, but, you know what I’m saying. It’s not like you’re ever gonna see Justin Bieber got smoked, or whatever. It’s only hip hop.”

He continued, “And people be like ‘well, with hip hop you always flossin’, you always doin’ this’ but, its like what you want niggas to do?”

Last Wednesday (Feb. 26), Pop Smoke was tragically murdered in his Hollywood Hills home. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder and police say that witnesses have been reluctant to talk. Since his passing, many rappers have spoken out against the violence that goes on in hip hop.

Jeezy recently posted a video on Instagram urging black men to stop killing each other.

“Yo. We gotta do better man,” he said. “What we doing? What we doing man? At the end of the day man we all kings. We not in the jungle. You ain’t gotta kill your brother to eat. Those days should be long behind us man.”

He continued, “They print money everyday, everyday. Apply yourself. We gotta do better. We kings, baby let’s be kings. We gotta get it together man. We just lost Nipsey to some ignorance and we back here again. Come on man. I’m rooting for you. I wanna see all y’all win. Everybody.”
