The Weeknd is breaking records with his forthcoming album After Hours and it’s not even released yet.
According to Chart Data and Music Business Worldwide, After Hours has been pre-saved over 975,000 times, breaking Apple Music’s record for most pre-saves for an album.
Chart Data tweeted, “@theweeknd’s After Hours has broken the record for most pre-saves in Apple Music history. It has been added over 975K times worldwide, could be first album to hit 1 MILLION ahead of release.”
The Starboy singer revealed the After Hours tracklist a few days ago. With 14 songs, the feature-less album will include the previously released “Blinding Lights,” “Heartless” and “After Hours” singles. “Heartless” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 towards the end of last year.
The Weeknd was slated to hit the road for the “After Hours Tour” this June. The 57-date tour will hit cities like Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, New Orleans, San Diego, Cleveland, Los Angeles and more. His tour could be delayed, however, due to Live Nation’s current tour postponement, which was recently announced in an effort to combat the spread of Coronavirus.
“The world’s leading forces in live entertainment have come together to form a global task force to drive strategic support and unified direction ensuring precautionary efforts and ongoing protocol are in the best interest of artists, fans, staff and the global community,” the company previously said in a joint statement with AEG.
“At this time, we collectively recommend large scale events through the end of March be postponed. We continue to support that small-scale events follow guidance set by their local government officials,” the statement continued. “We feel fortunate to have the flexibility to reschedule concerts, festivals, and live events as needed, and look forward to connecting fans with all their favorite artists and live entertainment soon.”
Congratulations to The Weeknd on this huge accomplishment. His album After Hours drops at midnight on all streaming platforms.
