Pusha T is looking to help cultivate artists from his home state of Virginia. The “If You Know You Know” rapper announced that he has started his own record label called Heir Wave Music Group.

He shared the news this week, while at an event in Richmond, Virginia. He also revealed that he signed the label’s first artist, Kahri 1k. Kahri is a rapper from Petersburg, Virginia who recently dropped his new project The Ghost of Pecan Acres last month.

Pusha wants to use his label to concentrate on signing artists from Virginia.

“As far as Virginia goes and where I’m from, the 757…I sort of feel like we haven’t established like a circuit that’s really our own,” Pusha said at the event. “Now, with the label, that’s one of the things I’m trying to do. … I felt like Kahri, and I felt like Kahri’s project, would be a great one to start this whole campaign with.”

Pusha recently made headlines when he announced that “Hunting Season,” his single with Jadakiss, would be pulled from streaming services following the untimely death of Pop Smoke.

In an Instagram post Pusha wrote, “‘Hunting Season’ was a request that IcePick Jay (RIP) always had and in light of his death me and Kiss made an incredible song.”

He continued, “With that being said, the whole concept of hunting season and the hypothetical ideas of ‘killing rappers’ isn’t [sitting] well with me while mourning the recent death of Popsmoke. Rest In Peace POP and condolences to his family.”

In the caption of the post Pusha wrote, “All love and utmost respect to @jadakiss and the memory of my good friend @icepicjay again RIP @realpopsmoke and condolences to the family…”
