Pop Smoke is reportedly dead after being fatally shot at his home in Hollywood, CA. According to TMZ, the up-and-coming rapper was shot and killed on Wednesday morning (Feb. 19) in a possibly home invasion burglary.
Law enforcement reports that two men wearing hoodies and masks broke into his home around 4:30 a.m. and fired multiple rounds of shots, hitting and critically injuring Pop. The suspects reportedly fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Pop was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood by ambulance to treat gunshot wounds. He was tragically pronounced dead at the hospital.
The murder suspects have not yet been identified by local authorities. TMZ also reports that it is unknown whether or not Pop knew the home invaders. A man was subsequently handcuffed by police, but was later determined to not be involved in the shooting and was released from custody.
Just weeks ago, Pop released his Meet The Woo 2 album, quickly following the project with a deluxe version. The Brooklynite collaborated with Quavo, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Fivio Foreign, Lil Tjay and more. His 2019 breakout hit “Welcome to the Party” was largely deemed the song of the summer and went on to receive remixes by high-profile artists, including fellow New Yorker Nicki Minaj.
Pop was known for his Brooklyn drill sound and as a promising rising star. Most recently, he teamed up with PnB Rock for their collaborated single, “Ordinary.” Pop also was confirmed to perform at Rolling Loud Miami, Something in the Water Festival and London’s Wireless Festival. He was only 20 years old.
Several members of the hip hop community and Pop’s fans have already offered their condolences to his family and paid tribute to the late rapper on social media.
