Big Daddy Kane is sharing who he thinks is the “Kobe Bryant” of hip hop.

Kane did an interview with “Cherie’s World Podcast” with Cherie Johnson and talked about how he reacted when he heard the news about Bryant’s untimely passing.

He said, “I was just on Instagram and I saw a post that said ‘no, not Kobe.’ So I just googled it and I saw what happened and I was really in a state of shock. You know, I was really in a state of shock. Like wow, this is unreal. Cause this was a young brother and you know, one of the greats. I probably would have him in my top five.”

He continued, “Watching him grow, through the NBA to the person he became, you know I thought was a beautiful thing man.”

“And then like an hour later, to find out about his daughter, you know that’s when it was like you know umm I put up a rest in peace post, logged off of Instagram, went and grabbed my seven-year-old, and I just hugged him for about 10 minutes straight man,” he said.

The interviewer then asked Kane who he thought would be the “Kobe Bryant” of hip hop and without explanation, he answered “Eminem.”

Em recently just dropped his new album Music To Be Murdered By. Spanning across 20 tracks, the record includes features from Royce Da 5’9”, Joel Ortiz, Anderson .Paak, Black Thought, Q-Tip, Young M.A., Ed Sheeran, a posthumous verse from Juice WRLD and more.

Em recently did a surprise performance of his 2002 hit “Lose Yourself” at the Oscars causing the sales for the song to spike tremendously.

According to Billboard, on Feb. 9 the song sold 4,000 downloads in the United States, showing a 1,894% increase. On that same day, Em’s entire catalogue sold 7,000 downloads, which was a 307% increase from the 2,000 he sold on Feb. 8.
