An upcoming Tupac Shakur film claims the rapper is still alive and hiding out in New Mexico. Twenty-three years after he was fatally shot in Las Vegas, 2Pac: The Great Escape From UMC aims to give his story an alternative ending.

“This movie is about Tupac actually escaping from University Medical Center here in Vegas and relocating to New Mexico [and] getting protection from the Navajo tribe,” Las Vegas filmmaker Rick Boss explained to KTNV Las Vegas, as reported by XXL.

Boss’ movie will reenact the infamous September 1996 shooting, which landed Tupac in the Las Vegas University Medical Center. Rather than being declared dead six days later, Boss alleges that he came up with a strategic exit plan to relocate to New Mexico. Furthermore, Boss says Tupac used a doppelgänger to take his place in Suge Knight’s car, after he was tipped off about the plot to kill him.

“When certain FBI agencies are looking for you, they are going to block the airport so you can’t travel out, so the best way to escape is through helicopter, private helicopter, to another state,” said Boss.

Because FBI agents are not permitted on Native American tribe land without tribal council’s permission, Boss argues that the Navajo-controlled area in New Mexico would be Tupac’s perfect hideout.

Although the story line is only a conspiracy theory, Boss says he has Tupac’s family’s support on the film.

“You can write a fiction. You can write a fiction story but this is not a fiction. This is facts through certain people I know,” he said, adding that information from the script came from the rapper’s family and inner circle. “Let’s just say Mr. Shakur—the family is aware of the movie and they’re okay with the title so that should tell you more or less what’s going on.”

Tupac will be played by actor Richard Garcia, who does believe the rapper died in 1996.

“He’s gone, but like you said, like his mother said, he lives on through all of us,” he told the news outlet. “Through our memories, through our hearts, through our tribute.”

2Pac: The Great Escape From UMC is set to hit theaters in early 2021.
