A new Phife Dawg album is on its way and will arrive in early 2021. A Tribe Called Quest took to Twitter to announce their plans to release a new posthumous project from the rapper next year. The group made the announcement on Friday (Nov. 20), in celebration of what would have been his 50th birthday.

In honor of his birthday, the group released limited edition “Phife Forever” T-Shirts for fans to purchase and teased that a new project was on the way in the beginning of next year. “Happy 50th Phife Dawg! To honor and celebrate his life and legacy, the estate on behalf of his family just released limited edition “Phife Forever” tees. You can pre-order until 12/1 in the bio,” the group tweeted. “Also know that early next year you will all get to hear a new Phife album.”

This isn’t the first time the late rapper’s loved ones tease that an unreleased album from the rapper exists. Phife’s widow, Desha Head Taylor, revealed right after he passed away that her husband left behind an unreleased project with new music.

The album was record prior to his death and there have been reports that the project is titled Give Thanks, while other reports claim it is titled Forever. It was originally slated to be released in 2017. In 2016, fans got to listen to the song “Nutshell” produced by J Dilla and the track “Beat The System” in 2020.

Phife was the co-founder of A Tribe Called Quest. He released six albums with the group with the most recent LP, released shortly after his death, titled We Got It From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service. The rapper released one solo studio album in 2000 titled Ventilation: Da LP. The rapper passed away in March 2016 due complications from diabetes.
