Beyoncé partners with Peloton to create homecoming-themed workouts

As part of the partnership, students from 10 HBCUs will be awarded with two-year Peloton memberships.

Beyoncé has partnered with fitness platform Peloton to celebrate HBCU homecomings. With many of the annual events postponed or celebrated virtually as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Black is King star seeks to extend this year’s experience with homecoming-themed workouts.

The classes — which include indoor cycling, running, strength, bootcamp, yoga and meditation — will be available to Peloton members via Peloton’s mobile app as well as on the company’s exercise bikes and treadmills.

As part of the Beyoncé x Peloton collaboration, students from 10 Historically Black Colleges and Universities will be given two-year Peloton digital memberships. The winners — students at Bennett College, Clark Atlanta University, Grambling State University, Hampton University, Howard University, Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine, Spelman College, Texas Southern University and Wilberforce University — will be announced by the end of the month.

“Peloton and I both believe that the power of music can help uplift, motivate and inspire those on their fitness journeys,” said Beyoncé. “I’ve been a Peloton member for several years, and I’m excited to partner with a company that helps people, young and old, be the best versions of themselves in an innovative and adaptable way. I’m proud to celebrate the students at HBCUs with this donation, to encourage them to find and embrace their own wellness regimens.”

Beyoncé will continue to curate workout classes with Peloton in the coming months, and the fitness company will work with the aforementioned schools to recruit future interns and employees.

Beyoncé’s commitment to empowerment and artistic expression is an inspiration to the entire Peloton community,” said Peloton’s Head of Music Gwen Bethel Riley. “It is a privilege to be able to work closely with her, and her extraordinary team to broaden access to our platform and collaborate on incredible offerings we think our members will love.”

Beyoncé’s adoration for HBCUs is well-documented on her Homecoming documentary and is evident in the provision of scholarships to HBCU students via her Homecoming Scholars Award program. As for her love of fitness, the second collection for Ivy Park x Adidas — her activewear brand — recently dropped and was gifted to celebrities like Kehlani, Mariah Carey and Mo’Nique.
