A Chicago man has taken extreme measures to get in touch with President Donald Trump. On Sunday (Oct. 18), the unidentified man dangled from the 16th floor of the Trump Tower as he demanded to speak to POTUS.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the man started hanging from the side of the Trump International Hotel & Tower in downtown Chicago at 5:30 p.m. Streets were closed off as police officers, fire department officials and a SWAT team arrived at the scene.

Police spokesman Tom Ahern revealed the man, who they believed climbed the building with a harness, was trying to speak to Trump and threatened suicide if his demands weren’t met. A video later surfaced of a man making similar demands as he held onto a red rope and a knife. “I have a knife. If someone will try to pull [the rope], I will cut it, and I will probably die. But I don’t want to die,” he said. Police have not yet confirmed whether the man in the video was actually the one hanging from the building.

Detective Hector Matias told reporters that the young man asked authorities for several things, but they were only able to accommodate a few of them. “We agreed on a couple of concessions that we could agree to that were safe,” he said. His request to speak to members of the media was not granted.

On Monday (Oct. 19), following a standoff that lasted over 13 hours, emergency responders were able to pull the man to safety. “Situation resolved peacefully by negotiators,” tweeted Ahern. “Suspect in custody. No injuries.”

Commander Patty Casey, who heads the youth investigations unit, added the man was taken to a hospital and will receive a mental health evaluation. Charges against him will be filed after the results of the evaluation are received.
