Mendeecees Harris was reportedly released from prison on Wednesday (Jan. 29). According to a report by The Shade Room, the “Love & Hip Hop: New York” star has now reunited with his wife Yandy Smith-Harris and children.

“He has no idea he’s about to perform for his biggest fan,” Smith-Harris wrote on Instagram on Wednesday (Jan. 29), along with a video of her son Skylar playing the piano.

The news arrives after outlets previously reported that Harris’ prison release was slated for November 2020, putting his actual release several months early.

Harris was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for drug trafficking charges in 2015. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess heroin and cocaine in New York and began serving his sentence in January of 2016.

Harris had initially faced a maximum sentence of 10 years for the charges, but was sentenced to eight as part of a plea deal, which required him to admit to helping ferry drugs from New York City to Rochester, NY from 2006 to 2008.

He was credited with 15 months of time served for the duration of time he spent behind bars before his prison sentence began. With four years served and Wednesday’s (Jan. 29) release, Harris served about half of his sentence.

According to Madame Noire, while incarcerated, Harris completed a substance abuse program and took courses in parenting, financial management, health, nutrition and public speaking. The outlet also reports that his substance abuse program decreased his sentence by a year.

“Mendeecees is great! Mendeecees is wonderful,” his wife had previously told the outlet. “He is so ready to come home. We have been told a couple different times that it was time for him to come home, but officially, he will be here very soon. This time it’s for real.”
