Juice WRLD has died after suffering a seizure at Chicago’s Midway airport. He was 21 years old. According to TMZ, the Chicago rapper had just landed from California early Sunday morning (Dec. 8) and after deplaning, witnesses said he suffered the seizure while walking through the airport.

Law enforcement sources told the outlet that Juice WRLD, whose real name is Jarad Anthony Higgins, was bleeding from the mouth when paramedics arrived. Reports say the rapper was conscious when he was rushed to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.

The cause of death is not known at this time.

The rapper spoke of his addiction to codeine over the summer, vowing to quit his usage after scaring his girlfriend. He wrote on Twitter back in July, “Ima leave that s—t alone 4 good watch me.. I’m done w it,” Juice wrote. “I got work to do, a lot.”

After posting the tweet, Juice’s girlfriend, Ally, agreed with his decision. He then explained the dangers of addiction. “Bae I’m sorry I be tweaking, you’ve put up with more than ppl know I know I be scaring you, f—k Codeine I’m done. I love you and im letting it be known publicly that ain’t s—t f—king up the real love I found. Learn from this everyone. Addiction kills all but you can overcome,” he wrote.

Juice hit the scene with his breakout record, “Lucid Dreams” in 2018. The record was originally released on SoundCloud the year prior, but was officially released after he signed to Interscope Records. The song debuted at No. 74 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with 10 million US streams and 4,000 digital downloads. The song later went to No. 9 on the charts and became Juice WRLD’s first top 10 record.
