Following T.I.’s controversial comments about ensuring his daughter’s virginity and his appearance on last week’s “Red Table Talk” to discuss the issue, Rah Digga has come out in support of the currently under-fire rapper.
“So on top of it being criminal for parents to discipline their children they’re trying to make it criminal to monitor their sex lives? FOH!! I STAND WITH [Tip],” she tweeted on Sunday (Dec. 1) in response to New York legislators’ proposed banning of ‘hymen checks’ or virginity exams.
The Flipmode Squad artist supported her opinion in a series of tweets that caught her mostly heat from Twitter users.
“What’s sick are the leaps and bounds society is taking to remove parental structuring and people justifying it,” she wrote. “Same society won’t have sh*t to say when that kid comes home pregnant and abortions are illegal. That’s that on that!!”
In a later tweet, Rah revealed that she’s also taken her daughter for a similar “hymen check,” and shared her experience.
“Well I did it and guess what? When I found out she wasn’t anymore did I berate her..No. Did I kick her out the house..No. I was able to have a convo where she openly told me what it was. And i emphasized being safe. And life went on,” she wrote.
Rah further defended Tip, tweeting, “Cuz there would proly be zero outrage if a mother said this. And yes it is next level sh*t. But I did it too so I get it…”
“Everybody so stuck on the logistics of a ‘hymen test’ and ignoring a father expressing how he goes above and beyond to keep his kids in line,” she wrote in another tweet. “It may not be your way but I can NEVER be mad at any Black father for that. Sorry not sorry.”
In response to Twitter users calling the exam “intrusive” and “perverted,” Rah continued to stand her ground.
“So the day she turned 18 [T.I.] went from being an overprotective Dad to pervert? Because any vaginas still in MY house that I gotta provide for are getting policed. Straight like that,” she wrote.
Finishing off her Twitter stream, Rah shared how her daughter feels about the argument.
“So I just got a call from my daughter amidst the online banter. She said ‘Thank you for being you Mom. I’m a better woman for it!’” Rah tweeted. “Full time student, full time job, her own car, crib and ain’t thinking about having kids till she finish her degrees. That’s all the cosign I need.”
Last month, T.I. appeared as a guest on the “Ladies Like Us” podcast, where he claimed he attended gynecologist appointments with his now 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris, for “hymen checks,” a practice also known as virginity testing.
“We have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen,” he stated, adding that as of her 18th birthday, his daughter’s “hymen is still intact.”
Despite the controversial examination being known for producing largely inconclusive results, T.I. said he still requires it.
“And so then [the doctor] come and say, ‘Well I just want you to know that there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding and just other forms of athletic physical activity,’” Tip said on the podcast. “So I say, ‘Look doc, she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bike, she don’t play no sports. Just check the hymen please and give me back my results expeditiously.’”
Last week, the rap mogul told Jada Pinkett Smith that he “embellish[ed]” and “exaggerate[d]” certain details while appearing on her “Red Table Talk” Facebook series.
“I never said I was in any exam room. That is an assumption. That is a falsity,” he said. “I never said it was being done present-day. I never said that her mother wasn’t present.”
