As the year comes to an end, Barack Obama has listed his favorite films and TV shows of 2019. The list included a few Indie films, as well as films produced or distributed by Netflix.

The Netflix shows that made the cut include “Marriage Story, The Irishman,” “Atlantics” and him and the former First Lady’s High Ground Productions documentary, American Factory.

“American Factory” is one of the first films Barack and Michelle released under their multi-year deal with Netflix, which was announced in May 2018. The couple announced the venture in a promo for the documentary. “Higher Ground is a reflection of both of us,” Michelle said at the time. “So that means that our platform is gonna look a little bit like everything, just like the world is a little bit of everything.”

Barack added, “We want people to be able to get outside of themselves, and experience and understand the lives of somebody else, which is what a good story does. It helps all of us feel some sort of solidarity with each other.”

According to TMZ, the deal potentially includes “scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries, and features.”

Barack also included the following Indie films on his list of favorite movies, The Farewell, The Souvenir, Ford v Ferrari, Just Mercy, Little Women, The Last Black Man in San Francisco and Birds of Passage.

Back in August, the 44th president shared his favorite songs of the summer. He revealed the lengthy playlist on Twitter, writing, “With summer winding down, here’s a sampling of what Michelle and I have been listening to — some new, some old, some fast, some slow. Hope you enjoy.”

Obama’s summer 2019 playlist featured Drake and Rihanna’s “Too Good,” AY-Z and Beyoncé’s “MOOD 4 EVA” off The Lion King: The Gift album, Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up” and Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.’s “Best Part.”
