Almost a month and a half after Drake was booed off the stage at Tyler, The Creator’s 2019 Camp Flog Gnaw Festival, Tyler is opening up about the incident once again.
In an interview on the set of the Kerwin Frost Talks show on Friday (Dec. 20), he revisited how he felt that night of the festival.
“Everyone thought Frank was gonna be there, but I never said he was or implied it or anything,” began the Igor artist, referring to the rumors that Frank Ocean would be the show’s surprise guest. “Drake came out, and a couple of people were mad. Everyone’s having a good time, but there were a few people in the front who were just not fucking with it.”
“And then when that happened and these muthafuckas is like ‘Fuck you!’... It’s like a reflection on me to Aubrey,” Tyler continued. “It’s like coming to my house and then my kids start peeing on your leg and then you start looking at me like ‘Dawg, get your fucking kids, bro!’ But that’s they fault that they thought what they thought.”
The morning after the festival ended, Tyler took to his Twitter account to tweet his disapproval of his fans’ reaction to Drake’s performance. “I thought bringing one of the biggest artist on the fucking planet to a music festival was fire!” Tyler tweeted. “But flipside, a lil tone deaf knowing the specific crowd it drew. Some created a narrative in their head and acted out like assholes when it didn’t come true and I don’t fuck with that.”
He continued, “NIGGA DID FEEL NO WAYS! THAT SONG IS BEAUTIFUL! MOST GUYS DONT DO ALBUM CUTS! THANK YOU AUBREY! LIKE, I LOVE THAT SONG AND THOUGHT THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN.......HE REALLY DID THAT FOR ME AND I APPRECIATE IT BECAUSE HE DID NOT HAVE TO COME AT ALL.”
