More details have emerged surrounding the staged kidnapping of Bronx teen, Karol Sanchez.
A 16-year-old Sanchez planned the kidnapping with her 23-year-old boyfriend. According to PEOPLE, “the girl was upset her mother planned to move them back to their native Honduras and wanted to stay in the United States with her boyfriend, who has not been publicly named.”
Video of the kidnapping went viral on social media as many concerned citizens became concerned for Sanchez’ safety. Her picture had been shared all over every social media platform. Sanchez was walking with her mother around 11:20 p.m. along Eagle Avenue near East 156th Street in Melrose section when a tan four-door sedan pulled up beside them.
Two men jumped out, grabbed the girl and dragged her into the vehicle, police said. They also allegedly knocked her 36-year-old mother to the ground. Police said four men drove off with the victim. Sanchez’s mother was visibly distressed following the incident. “She was just screaming ‘My daughter, my daughter, my God someone please help me.’ She was screaming hysterically. And I was looking, wondering what was going on. She was just screaming in the street,” the witness told CBS New York.
At 2:30 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 17), Sanchez suddenly showed back up and turned herself into police. A witness recalled seeing Sanchez as she spoke with police. “She was shaken up. She was bending over, grabbing her knees, and discussing with the police. And that’s when they took her into the parking garage for questioning,” Zani Koxha said.
According to the PEOPLE, Sanchez was shaken up by the media coverage of her disappearance and showed up at a relative’s home before she was found.
Police are searching for four suspects including the boyfriend but have not made any arrests. The sources say the boyfriend has a criminal record and is allegedly a member of a gang.
