Mathew Knowles clarifies Destiny’s Child harassment claims

Mathew Knowles is setting the record straight.

Beyoncé’s dad, Mathew Knowles, has clarified claims he recently made when revealing that his daughter and fellow Destiny’ Child singer Kelly Rowland were harassed by members of Jagged Edge when they were younger.

Knowles told Page Six, “I feel the need to clarify that I did not say the girls were sexually harassed while on tour with Jagged Edge in the 2000s. I said ‘harassed.’ The term ‘sexual harassment’ may imply to some to mean physical advances. I would classify the harassment they encountered more as unwelcome and inappropriate remarks to minors from adults who should have known better.”

The reports began circulating last week when Knowles told VladTV during an interview that the girls of Destiny’s Child would call him claiming that they were “constantly being harassed” on tour. “Now remember, the girls are minors. They’re 16 years old … The guys are 21 and 22 years old. I have a fiduciary duty with minors. By the law, there’s a certain way I have to manage that,” he said.

He continued, “I couldn’t have that. I literally had to put the guys off the bus in Baton Rouge, LA. That began all of this drama.”

While Knowles didn’t reveal the names of the alleged harassers, Destiny’s Child was on tour with Jagged Edge at the time.

Knowles went on to say that the incidents took place around the time that former Destiny’s Child members LaTavia Roberson and LaToya Luckett decided to part ways with his management. He said, “An attorney called me out-of-the-blue to tell me that I would be getting a certified letter… to tell me that, at this point, that he was now on an interim basis managing LaTavia and LaToya. And that they would finally go and search for a final manager, but for now he was the interim manager.”

Jagged Edge denied the allegations.
