This year, Jermaine Dupri partnered with PETA, the Southwest Ecumenical Emergency Assistance Center (SWEEAC) and Hands On Atlanta to bring vegan Thanksgiving dinners to his home city of Atlanta. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the veteran artist teamed up with “Dynasty” actors Elaine Hendrix and Rafael de la Fuente to provide meals to over 50 families on Sunday (Nov. 24).
“I’ve been vegan for over a decade and for me, there’s nothing better for feeling your best and knowing you’re helping the planet and animals,” Dupri said in a press release. “The holidays are about the spirit of giving, and PETA and I want to give people in Atlanta a Thanksgiving meal that’s healthy, humane and delicious.”
The free meal included vegan takes on Thanksgiving favorites like roasted vegan turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy and pumpkin pie, provided by the Atlanta vegan restaurant, Café Sunflower.
Dupri and the event volunteers also gave away tofurky roasts and vegan start kits, provided by PETA, that instruct how to make vegan meals at home.
“SWEEAC had the honor of co-hosting an event with [PETA] to help promote healthy eating,” SWEEAC wrote in an Instagram post. “[Jermaine Dupri] provided his insight on living a vegan lifestyle and how changing his eating habits has changed his life! We hope that providing the families better choices will help people live long healthy lives. Thank you SWEEAC volunteers and board members who came out to show your love and support.”

SWEEAC would like to thank @peta and @jermainedupri for coming to SWEEAC today and hosting a vegan Thanksgiving meal. SWEEAC is always looking for new ways to introduce healthy eating choices to the over 300 people that we assist each week. These events help educate those on foods that they may have never thought of trying. Healthy eating leads to healthy lives. Thank you to all those that showed up and supported this event. #thankyou #support #sweeac #atlanta #food #healthyfood #vegan #thanksgiving
Other hip hop artists have gotten into the holiday spirit this Thanksgiving, too. Kodak Black recently launched his annual gift card donation drive, gifting thousands of dollars in grocery store gift cards and more. Rapper Deniro Farrar also announced via Instagram that he’d be hosting a vegan soul food giveaway on Thursday (Nov. 28) in his home city of Charlotte, North Carolina.
