Thursday (Oct. 31) Earl Sweatshirt surprised fans with an announcement about a forthcoming album—dropping tonight. The Chicago-bred rapper shared the cover art of his new LP, Feet of Clay, which will drop tonight (Oct. 31) at 9 p.m. PST.

The album, which contains seven songs, will be the first release of the year for Earl, who dropped off his Some Rap Songs project in 2018. Feet of Clay also serves as Earl’s inaugural release through Warner Bros., after leaving Columbia Records.

Earl self-produced the majority of the album, tapping the legendary producer Alchemist for the third track, “MTOMB,” and featured production elsewhere from Ovrkast. The project’s two lone features come from Haitian-American rapper Mach-Hommy and rising artist Mavi on “4N” and “EL TORO COMBO MEAL.”

Earl described the album in a press release, saying that “FOC is a collection of observations and feelings recorded during the death throes of a crumbling empire.” Feet of Clay’s release will be quickly followed by a music video for project track, “East.”

Earlier this year, the “Chum” rapper released an experimental short film titled Nowhere, Nobody. Directed by Naima Ramos-Chapman and Terence Nance, the eight-minute video featured snippets from his Some Rap Songs album and starred Phillips E. Walker, Semere-Ab Etmet Yohannes, Maddox Dutton, Ian Randolph, Earl and more.

“I’m trying to communicate myself using sacred theme music for my soul and for people’s souls,” Earl said of his Some Rap Songs album during an interview with Pitchfork earlier this year. “I’m trying to submit this as my contribution to the tapestry. I spent time making sure that it stands out but still fits into something that’s bigger than me.”

This November, Earl is set to perform at his Odd Future cohort Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, which will take place at the Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.
