K Camp has easily been one of the most overlooked and underrated artists in music for years now. He has always been a problem, but it was his two hit records “Money Baby” and “Cut Her Off” (both featured on his EP In Due Time in 2014) that really elevated his rise to stardom. Through the years, he’s given us solid projects with back to back hits — and somehow, he’s still slept on by many people and that is a mystery that has yet to be solved. Anyway, it is dope to see that even with setbacks and obstacles thrown his way, K Camp is a solid one that pushed through the adversity and continues to drop off heat for us. Today (Aug 13), he brings forth his sixth studio LP FLOAT.

FLOAT is the biggest release from K Camp since his last viral hit. The fever pitch mania surrounding the single “Lottery (Renegade)” was reaching extreme heights of viral attention. The catchy song became attached to a worldwide dance phenomenon thanks to the micro-video app Tik Tok. The record was even recognized in The New York Times by technology reporter Taylor Lorenz. In his excellent profile, “The Original Renegade,” Lorenz covers the dance inspired by the song, stolen from 14-year-old Georgia dancer Jalaiah Harmon. It is the best coverage of K Camp’s quietest hit record.

The word “quietest” comes to mind because “Lottery (Renegade)” has yet to appear on Billboard’s US Hot 100 chart. Although it is the backdrop to a dance, the Reazy Renegade-produced song was a successful, organic Tik Tok hit. New, unknown rappers who have nowhere near the profile of a rap artist like K Camp have charted and earned million-dollar record deals for sparking trendy challenges on the social media site.

K Camp’s FLOAT album is laced with 15 records and has musical contributions from the likes of PNB Rock, Trey Songz, Mooski, True Story Gee, and Kaleem Taylor.
