Back in January 2019, NeemTheGreat unveiled his well-received EP Lately, an eight-track offering that landed him on everyone’s proverbial radar. Mere months later, he would release the full-length body of work Sunset in LA, which contained 11 tracks and assists from Carlito SF, Deus Lee, Freelance, and Dorian.

This year, he returns with a new single titled “Lamez,” a reunion with Carlito SF and Freelance, as well as a new connection with artist Obasi Jackson — the last of whom is the brother of the late Pop Smoke. The track is mainly centered around those who are forced to watch their potential love interests develop relationships with men who they feel are subpar in relation to them.

Via press release, NeemTheGreat further explained how the collaboration came to fruition:

“Lamez was one of those songs I had in the cut and just wanted it to be heavy with features. I decided to throw an artist from the Tri-State on the record. Pop Smoke’s brother Obasi Jackson was also featured on the record. One thing I admire about him is that he never used his name for clout even before what happened to him.”

As previously revealed via Inside Edition, Jackson spoke on the moment he learned that Pop Smoke had transitioned:

“My friend comes up to my dorm and knocks. She was like, ‘I got something to tell you. I hate to give you this news.’ ... She tells me that my brother is dead. I’m like, ‘You got to go.’ and I’m like, ‘why would you even say that? You’re playing, don’t say that.’ And then I call my mom...”

Press play on NeemTheGreat, Freelance, Carlito SF, and Obasi Jackson’s “Lamez” collaboration below. In related news, Neem is said to be working on his forthcoming body of work titled Sunset in LA 2 — hopefully, that will make landfall sooner than later.
