2020 was a pretty big year for Russ, to say the least. He kicked things off with his third studio album SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE, which saw 14 cuts and additional appearances from Rick Ross, Bugus, Kiana Ledé, Benny The Butcher, Devin The Dude, and BIA. He later followed that up with a deluxe edition of SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE that added on seven tracks with a couple of new collaborations alongside WESTSIDE BOOGIE and Ty Dolla $ign. Add in the loose singles “Give Up,” “Throne Talks,” “Take You Back” with Kehlani, “Paid Off,” “Sorry,” and “I Love Me,” along with the well-received EP CHOMP, and it’s clear that Russ has been making the best of his quarantined time by staying busy in the studio.

Following the Lil Baby-assisted “UGLY,” this month sees Russ dropping off another 2021 cut titled “MISUNDERSTOOD,” which sees him singing about how the constant criticism and hate from everywhere has left him mentally exhausted:

“I’m tired, I’m tired, I’m tired, I’m tired, I’m tired, of over-explaining myself when you don’t wanna get it, I’m not responsible for what you don’t understand, just for what I say and who I am/

Misunderstood, you only see, pieces that fit your view of me, your mind is made up, my hands are tied, misunderstood time after time…/”

Directed by Edgar Esteves, the video takes place in a small room, with Russ in a chair with rope tied around his wrists. Throughout, he’s forced to endure slander from the authorities, the media, a presumed ex love interest, and social media detractors, all of who leave him increasingly battered and bloodied. The clip ends with Russ staring at another version of himself, who frees him from captivity before they both leave the room.
