This Friday (February 12), Dr Maleek will release Complications II, the direct follow-up to 2018’s Complications. Before that project makes landfall, the Long Beach artist delivers a visual for the opening track “Thankful (Interlude),”

“Baby you know you a bad one, nothing like my last one, call me when your bath done, I’ma come through, scoop you up in the fast one, yeah it’s feeling like paradise, heaven like we in the afterlife, I wanna see that ass tonight/

Can’t no one compare to your glow girl, I get the bag, so I’ma give you the whole world, pick a coast, I’ll fly you out to the ocean.../”

Directed by Souqi, the short film begins with Dr Maleek and his love interest arriving at an airport for his departure back to the west coast, with the two discussing said love interest’s eventual visit to California. Much of the clip then plays out that reality, with Dr Maleek showing his girl the finer things in life — one scene also shows him whisking her away from a mob of paparazzi. At the end, it’s clear that there’s someone else in this woman’s life, as she’s seen breaking a moment of intimacy to answer a phone call, just before a “to be continued” sign brings the video to a close.

Released via a joint venture with Republic, Dr Maleek’s emotionally charged, sample-heavy Complications saw 11 cuts with additional features from DJ Bugsy, DJ Swanzy, and Tory Lanez, who contributed to the melodic number “Choosin’.” As revealed via press release, the forthcoming body of work is also expected to feature assists from PARTYNEXTDOOR and Chris Brown.
