Raleigh, NC artist Mez has been aligning himself with some of the biggest icons in hip hop, and it’s only right he starts to receive some attention for his own musical creations. This week, he liberates a new single titled “Loading…,” which sees production from DJ Dahi and Frank Dukes and shows Mez his struggles in the Tar Heel state and racial issues overall:

“One stand for the trap, but I drunk from the tap, my life want bottled water, if was a mothaf***in drink machine/

That b***h stayed outta order, and reporters won’t report the way we was brought up, they just show us when we caught up…/”

Taking to social media, Mez explained the song even further:

“Always loved this song I started it a while back and finished more recently. It feel good to speak from the core of me I know that’s always the right answer.”

Mez — or King Mez, as some know him by — first received widespread acclaim in 2015 for his assistance on Dr. Dre’s Compton: A Soundtrack, featuring on “Talk About It,” “Darkside/Gone,” and “Satisfaction.” Since then, he’s released dope cuts like his Data Plan EP series and “Southside Mez.” He’s also been behind the camera, handling video direction duties for likes of Sir and J. Cole. In a past interview with Variety, Mez spoke on how he connected with the Dreamville camp:

“Omen [signed to Dreamville] played Cole my music for the first time at this studio in Sherman Oaks. It used to be No I.D.’s studio but four or five years later, it was Dr. Dre’s studio. I wrote an album for Dre in the same room Omen played Cole my music for the first time.”
