Baton Rouge has been brewing some of the best rappers out as of late, from veterans like Boosie Badazz to new frontrunners and up-and-comers like YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Fredo Bang. Over the weekend, OBN Jay became the latest from that city to drop some heat in the form of No Commercial Breaks, which boasts 12 new tracks and features from Jackboy and King Von. The release is led by tracks like “On My Level” and “Blue Moon,” which sees him rapping about beating the odds and living his life:

“I don’t know what to think at times, Lord help me, I still suggest to sling that iron even when I’m wealthy/

I’ma grind solo don’t waste no time, nobody helped me, yo bridge burnt but I ain’t gotta explain i know you felt me/

Straight drop don’t need no pen, slang pills and dope and weed out the house, came up ain’t got new friends/

I remember who was f***ing with me sleeping on the couch, I’m the wave I’m the new trend.../”

In addition to No Commercial Breaks comes a fresh visual for the album cut “NOLA,” which takes inspiration from Juvenile’s classic Juve the Great cut “Slow Motion.” The Dark Brothers-directed clip shows OBN Jay paying tribute to Juvenile and the late Soulja Slim via graffiti art while showing love to the city the rappers are derived from (“This sounds like NOLA, huh?”).

OBN Jay has been feeding the streets with hard-hitting tunes for the past couple of years, including projects like Lost Hope, Hang Tight, Life At 19 and No Weakness along with bonafide hits like “007,” “Stackin,” “July 26” and “Fortnite.” In addition to the aforementioned, he’s also collaborated with the likes of JayDaYoungan and Quando Rondo.
