If there’s anyone who’s seen the ups and down of the music industry, it’s Trinidad James. The Atlanta-based artist saw extreme success with his breakthrough single “All Gold Everything” in 2012, eventually jumping on hit records with August Alsina, Jay Park, Jaden, and more. Unfortunately, he didn’t see much in the way of chart-topping releases after that — he eventually found himself without a label a couple of years later. Thankfully, it hasn’t stopped his creative output, as Trinidad James has been releasing a slew of notable mixtapes since, including No One Is Safe, Father FiGGa, and Daddy Issues.

This week, he returns with his new visual for “Black Owned,” a track that pays tribute to businesses that thrive within the African-American community:

“Back on n***a, black owned n***a, s*** getting ugly, mask on n***a/

S*** get crazy when that cash gone n***a, everybody got the answers, I ain’t ask y’all n***as/

Give a f*** who got now, n***a, now you got next, I ain’t at’ing n***as, bitch, boy I’m at you n***as neck/

N***as living for the limelight and dying for success, I feel like Virgil and Rambo in this Louie V vest/”

The visual sees him in his usual eccentric threads, showcasing different black-owned businesses for added effect. The track also solidifies James’ lyrical ability, making it clear that he’s still very much active within the industry as one of the hardest-working emcees out.

In a past interview with REVOLT, Trinidad James spoke on his fashion sense, as well as tips he picked up while he was on the “Under Influence Tour” with A$AP Rocky, Wiz Khalifa, and more back in 2013:

“Out of Rocky, Wiz, or myself; the things I was wearing wasn’t even fashion. It was more, ‘What is he doing?’ Rocky is more formal. He’s always neat no matter what he’s wearing. It could be dirty, but it’s still going to be neat because he’s a neat person. Wiz is a mixture of hippie, ratchet, and elegant when he wants to be. Out of us three, we kept our fashion tips to ourselves because we all got a lot of pride, especially back then. I come from fashion. I was a stylist before the music stuff. I’m sure Wiz had his own opinion and Rocky, as well.”
