TOKiMONSTA, Bibi Bourelly and Jean Deaux “One Day”
Maria Jose Govea

Los Angeles DJ/producer TOKiMONSTA is all about the power of women with her latest, the inspirational track “One Day.” The genre-bending number sees her teaming up with vocalists/songwriters Bibi Bourelly and Jean Deaux, who deliver lyrics about fighting for what’s yours within a male-dominated world:

“The boys think that I’m too good and they think I’m too hard/

Just ’cause I cry in my room don’t mean I don’t cry at all/

I’ve never been into playin’ the victim.../

Just another princess in someone else’s kingdom/

You’ve been sleepin’ good, but I’ve been ‘wake/

I’ve been puttin’ work in, you’ve been laid/

I’m tryna get the f***, f*** up out this place.../”

In the Jordan Bahat-directed visual, the trio can be seeing performing in a dojo that seems to be floating in space, while students practice martial arts around them. Near the end, a young girl receives a heartful of strength from the artists through a cup of tea, which TOKiMONSTA explains in the clip’s description:

“Buried deep inside us is the will to overcome the most difficult hardships. As women, Bibi, Jean Deaux, and I know how strong you have to be to push forward when no one believes in you. One Day is dedicated to every person of every creed feeling life’s hardships, but not losing themselves to it. Our drive and our determination will guide us to the faint light at the end of the tunnel.”

Prior to this single, TOKiMONSTA has collaborated with the likes of Anderson .Paak and Isaiah Rashad, and has released critically-acclaimed albums and remixes alike. Her previous album, 2017’s Lune Rouge, received high marks in various outlets for its ability to deliver the usual pop and electronic sounds from a completely unique standpoint.

Press play on “One Day” below, which is said to be taken from TOKiMONSTA’s forthcoming release Oasis Nocturno. Pre-order the album — and check out forthcoming tour dates — here.
