We all have those things about us that make us truly unique. And in a world that often speaks about Black people as though we’re all the same, it’s refreshing to rally around the traits that make us special, whether they’re quirky, extraordinary, or straight-up unbelievable.
Walmart knows this all too well, so it’s only right that the superstore partnered with REVOLT to bring you season two of “Receipts” -- its award-winning gameshow that’s all about celebrating everyday shoppers with unexpected talents. The series is inspired by Black and Unlimited, Walmart’s digital platform that amplifies the excellence, drive, and boundless potential of its Black shoppers.
In its opening season, the six-episode run made us laugh, contemplate, and question. Each episode had us competing with our friends at home and the celebrity contestants on our screens to guess the passions of Walmart shoppers with nothing but the items on a shopping receipt to guide us.
Now back for its second season, fans of the show will immediately notice some welcomed additions. First and foremost is the casting of Lala Milan, who’ll take over hosting duties from season one’s Quincy Brown and Desi Banks. As a multi-faceted YouTuber, comedian, and actress in her own right, the South Carolina native was a no-brainer to helm a show that celebrates dynamic talent.
Shortly after graduating from college, Milan became a licensed cosmetologist before leaving the beauty field behind and ultimately finding internet fame, thanks to her comedic skits, characters, and day-in-the-life content.
Milan gave Brown a run for his money as a contestant on the season one finale. Though she ultimately lost the bout, her infectious energy and “free medicinal laughter” brought a fun new element to the show. With that in mind, her taking over on the other side of the podium is a win for us all.
It’s worth noting Milan is far from the only celebrity who’ll grace the set this go-round. Of course, “Receipts” is nothing without the element of surprise, so we can’t give away too many names, but trust us, there’ll be no shortage of must-see talent. From Brooklyn’s own multi-hyphenate rapper-turned-actor Joey Badass and “Empire” breakout star Serayah to the immensely talented wordsmith Lecrae, each contestant pairing promises to bring on-screen chemistry that pulls you right into the episode.
This season also features some clever updates to the gameplay mechanics, namely, the addition of two new rounds that could either prove incredibly helpful or immensely challenging to the competitors. In the new “Show Me What You Got” segment, each contestant will look through a basket of items that all serve a similar purpose before guessing what the Walmart shopper forgot to complete the task at hand. And, as the name suggests, in the “Facts or Cap” round, the celebs will determine what items were really purchased and which were part of an elaborate ruse during the shopper’s hypothetical Walmart trip.
“Receipts” is back and better than ever! Be sure to tune in to the new season on REVOLT’s YouTube channel, website and app to get in on the action.
