Pastor Michael Todd has issued an apology after a video of him smearing his spit over another man’s face during a sermon went viral on social media.

On Monday (Jan. 17), Pastor Todd of Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma took to Twitter to share a video of his apology. He called his actions during his Jan. 16 sermon “disgusting” and said they “crossed the line.” Todd said he’s devoted to giving people hope “so much so that I try to do extreme things.”

“That was a distraction to what I was really trying to do,” he added. “I was really trying to make the Word come alive and for people to see the story. But yesterday, it got too live and I own that.”

As REVOLT previously reported, in the viral clip, which has been viewed 1.7 million times as of Tuesday (Jan. 18), Pastor Todd repeatedly spit into his hand and told his congregation that “receiving vision from God might get nasty.” A man, who has been identified as Todd’s brother, stood on stage with him to be a part of the demonstration. “God’s saying, ‘Can you physically, spiritually and emotionally be able to stand?’” he said. “When getting the vision or receiving it might get nasty.”

Todd then spread the saliva all over his hands and smeared it all over his brother’s face. The act was met with stunned reactions from the congregation. However, the pastor was expecting that response. “What I’m telling you is how you just reacted is how the people in your life will react when God is doing what it takes for the miracle,” he added.

Several people took to social media to share their disgust with the sermon. “That Mike Todd video has been bothering me all day,” one person tweeted. “It[‘s] so disturbing, I can’t believe he did that. I’ve seen some things but that was so flagrant. Cancel clout chasing corporate Christianity cult charlatan’s charades.”
