Jasmine Guy is still trying to grasp the circumstances surrounding Bill Cosby’s alleged drugging and sexual assault scandals.

The “A Different World” actress emotionally spoke about his downfall to Page Six. “I couldn’t really put the two images together,” Guy said. “It’s heartbreaking for those of us in the business that admire him, his talent and his mind — and then as a Black person it’s heartbreaking because he meant a lot to the community.”

Guy said she talked to the men in her life to try to gain insight into Cosby’s behavior. “Just to [try to] understand the mentality, which is still baffling,” she said. “I asked practical questions like, ‘What pleasure do you get out of being with someone who’s kind of out of it?’”

“I don’t expect people to be perfect and I don’t expect human beings not to falter,” Guy continued. “I just didn’t understand. I don’t know, there was a meanness behind it that I couldn’t understand.”

Last summer, Cosby was released from prison after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his sexual assault conviction. The comedian was serving a three to 10-year sentence on sexual assault charges for the alleged drugging and molestation of Andrea Constand at his Pennsylvania home in 2004. Once the Pennsylvania Supreme Court discovered an agreement with a previous prosecutor that prevented him from being charged in the case, they overturned his conviction and he was immediately released after serving three years behind bars.

Following his release, the actor took to Twitter to thank his supporters. “I have never changed my stance nor my story,” he wrote. “I have always maintained my innocence. Thank you to all my fans, supporters and friends who stood by me through this ordeal. Special thanks to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law. #BillCosby.”
