Deion Sanders is setting the record straight following the recruitment of the nation’s top football prospect, Travis Hunter. During a recent interview on ESPN, the former NFL star denied rumors that he paid over a million dollars to get the high school athlete to commit to the Jackson State Tigers.

“We didn’t pay,” he said. “We ain’t got no money! We ain’t got no money! A million and a half? I heard a million and a half…That’s the biggest lie I’ve ever heard.”

“You know what that is? That means we kicked your butt, we took what was ours. And now, you got to make up an excuse why,” the Tigers head coach continued, reiterating that he didn’t chalk up any money for Hunter’s commitment. “Ain’t nobody giving out a million and a half. I wouldn’t pay my son a million and a half! How am I going to coach a guy that’s making more than me?!” He revealed that Hunter cemented his choice to attend JSU after attending the homecoming game earlier this year.

As REVOLT previously reported, Hunter, who currently plays football at Collins High School in Suwanee, Georgia, shocked the sports world yesterday (Dec. 15) when he flipped his one-and-a-half-year commitment to Florida State University to sign with Jackson State, an HBCU.

“Historically Black Colleges and Universities have a rich history in football,” Hunter tweeted in his post. “I want to be part of that history, and more, I want to be part of that future. I am making this decision so that I can light the way for others to follow, make it a little easier for the next player to recognize that HBCUs may be everything you want and more.”

Hunter’s run with the Tigers will start next year, and Sanders is extremely excited for the football player to show off his “it” factor.”When I tell you that he got that ‘it,'” he said. “He. Got. That. ‘It.'”
