When the clock struck midnight this morning, Rick Ross unveiled his eleventh studio LP Richer Than I Ever Been, which sees 12 tracks and additional features from The-Dream, Benny the Butcher, Wale, Future, Wiz Khalifa, Blxst, and more. In addition to the new body of work comes an accompanying visual for the lead single “Outlawz,” the Infamous, Carnage, and AraabMUZIK-produced effort that features 21 Savage and Jazmine Sullivan. Much of the infectious cut is centered around the artists reflecting on street life and their current positions in the game:
“Mozzarella, now its only tall cheddar, most dopе boys been a pallbearer, package the product then you pick it up back in Bahamas, talkin’ them dollars, how I touch it, come off as a profit, you leave ya pistol home then you’re on your own, ’cause lil’ one when it’s on, they gon’ do ya wrong, see you noddin’ off on that fentanyl, ff you’re not a boss, boy, don’t get involved…”
The accompanying clip for “Outlawz” sees Ross & Co. performing their parts from their individual thrones, all interspersed with shots of Ross and Sullivan in New York City. Ross roams neighborhood and drives around the city streets exchanging nods with passersby and Sullivan waits patiently for a meet-up to take place — the end of the video sees Rozay arriving to said meet-up with a briefcase full of money.
One person that is noticeably absent from Richer Than I Ever Been is long-time collaborator and MMG artist Meek Mill. During a recent sit-down with Billboard’s Carl Lamarre, Ross made it clear that he’ll always support the Philly star in spite of any conflict the two may have:
“I feel like we’re both hustlers … Meek Mill posted my artwork last night. … That’s one thing about life, you either grow together or grow apart. As a boss, you make that decision, because whatever it is you want to do, Ricky Rozay wants to see you do it. There’s a lot of people that didn’t last or was still down with me the way Meek is — so I want to see the homie shine regardless.”
