Juicy J is blaming the breakup of Three 6 Mafia on drugs. While speaking with Nas and Miss Info for Spotify’s “The Bridge: 50 Years of Hip Hop” podcast, the “Bandz A Make Her Dance” rapper revealed that “the wildest drugs” led to the demise of the Academy award-winning group.
“From heroin to meth to cocaine, all kinds of pills,” he said. “A lot of drugs were consumed during the times we were together. When everybody was sober and shit, everybody’s on the same page. But when cocaine’s involved, things change. But I’m not pointing a figure at nobody.”
Juicy’s remarks were not the first time that one of the group members have openly spoken about their drug use. Crunchy Black spoke to VladTV earlier this year about how Juicy would issue fines to other members of the group if they allowed that lifestyle to get in the way of their work.
“I don’t think none of us OD’d or no shit like that. We had Juicy,” Crunchy said. “Juicy is the father of all the Three 6 Mafia and he’d tell you, ‘Nigga, if you do too much, we’ll fine you.’ And he’ll fine the fuck out of you, and [DJ] Paul would be with him with that shit.”
“I’m still here ’cause if it wasn’t for the fines, I probably would be gettin’ high as fuck,” he added.
Juicy previously opened up about his recreational drug use in the past. In a 2014 interview, he admitted to smoking marijuana, but said that he did it “responsibly.”
“I’m not gonna overdose on any drug. I’m not a crazy person like that,” he said during an interview with City Works. “I’m responsible for whatever I do. I enjoy living, you know what I’m saying? And you have to be smart about everything you do. You can’t be stupid. You drink too much water, you could kill yourself. You could OD on water. It’s true. You never overdo yourself on anything. You gotta be responsible if you like living on this earth.”
However, following the December 2019 death of Juice WRLD, the Memphis emcee took to Twitter to issue an apology to his fans for promoting drug use in his music. “If I inspired anybody to do drugs, I apologize,” he tweeted.
