What’s up everybody, it’s Legendary Lade and I’m back with another week of Kickin’ Facts! This week, I’m bringing to you the New Balance 993s by Aimé Leon Dore! It’s been a massive year for New Balance and the Queens, NY-born brand — and Aimé Leon Dore can arguably take a bulk of the credit for its resurgence. One of their most popular models, the 550 is a favorite amongst critics and fans alike, but I’ll get back to that in the weeks forthcoming.

For now, it’s all about the ALD/New Balance 993 collaboration in brown and green. The “Beef and Broccolis” of New Balances, as they are being called. It’s interesting how ALD designer Teddy Santis has his hand on the pulse of the past and the present alike. He knows exactly what’s classic, but also how to put a little twist on it, so it’s still fresh and new. For those who may not know, the nickname “Beef and Broccoli” is a popular way to describe footwear in this brown and green shade, most popularly attributed to the Timberland classic field boot pair.

But back to the shoe… The upper body is made of brown pig suede with dark green leather overlays — Pig suede is thinner than cow suede, which makes it ideal for use as a lining especially for a softer feel. Its black sole sits on New Balance’s ABZORB technology, a blend of foam cushioning and compression that features rubber. At its back is an Aimé Leon Dore branded cushion with 998 subtly to its left. Added to its packaging are three pairs of cotton laces: black, classic brown, and a blended brown and green pair, which encourage different ways to style the sneaker. All in all, this is the perfect fall/winter sneaker that calls for comfort dressing and layers.

The New Balance 993s by Aimé Leon Dore were released earlier this month and retailed for $200. I’d love to know how you feel about these!
