The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Drake and more nabbed 2021 American Music Awards nominations, which were revealed in full on Thursday morning (Oct. 28). The Weeknd is the second-place tally leader, following behind pop singer Olivia Rodrigo, with six nominations; while Doja Cat rounds out the list with five.

Polo G, Saweetie, Cardi B and more are also well-represented on the list, with the latter rapper receiving a total of three nods. Drake and The Weeknd will vie for Artist of the Year, while Erica Banks contends in the new Favorite Trending Song category for her viral TikTok hit, “Buss It.”

Favorite Trending Song is one of three new categories this year, along with Favorite Gospel Artist and Favorite Latin Duo or Group.

In R&B; Doja Cat, H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Jhené Aiko and SZA are nominated for Best Female R&B Artist. Doja, H.E.R. and Sullivan are also represented in the Favorite R&B Album category, along with Queen Naija and Giveon. Chris Brown, Giveon and more picked up nominations for Favorite Male R&B Artist, while Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars’ Silk Sonic nabbed several nominations, including Favorite R&B Song.

Juice WRLD and Pop Smoke were also posthumously honored. The former’s 2020 effort Legends Never Die is nominated for Favorite Hip Hop Album; while the latter is named in the Favorite Male Hip Hop Artist, Favorite Hip Hop Album and Favorite Hip Hop Song categories.

Three categories are missing from this year’s list, including Favorite Social Artist, which was won last year by BTS; Favorite Artist – Adult Contemporary, won by the Jonas Brothers; and Favorite Soundtrack, won in 2020 by Birds of Prey: The Album.

American Music Awards nominations are based on multiple factors, including Billboard chart success, streaming statistics, album and song sales and radio airplay. Artist and music data for the awards show was tracked by Billboard and MRC Data from Sept. 25, 2020 to Sept. 23, 2021.

Fans can now vote for all awards. The 2021 AMAs will air live at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater on Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. EST/ 5 p.m. PST on ABC, streaming the next day on Hulu. See the full list of nominees below.
