Over 100,000 YoungBoy Never Broke Again fans have signed a petition asking President Joe Biden to grant his release, HipHopDX reports. As of Thursday afternoon (Oct. 7), the Change.org petition, launched by “YB Supporter,” has specifically amassed over 101,820 signatures.
According to the We The People policy, White House officials are expected to respond to petitions after they reach 100,000 signatures. However, the policy states that petitions involving criminal cases can sometimes take longer to be addressed.
YoungBoy was arrested in March by federal authorities on weapons and drug charges stemming from a September 2020 incident. He’s remained behind bars since then at Louisiana’s St. Martin Parish Jail without bond, the petition claims.
The petition acknowledges that YoungBoy is next due in court on Oct. 18, but asks that the rapper be freed and allowed to celebrate his birthday “with family and friends” on Oct. 20.
“It is with great belief that [YoungBoy] would see this as a great opportunity to ameliorate himself as a person and an artist. We have watched him grow over the years and he has much more time to better himself,” the petition reads. “Being granted a release by the president himself would be life-changing and historical. Not only would the rapper be able to be with his family and friends, but he would be able to provide music for his fans and live his life.”
YoungBoy’s followers further assert that he “isn’t a menace to society, but is instead a kind-hearted soul who was mistreated and targeted by the FBI and Louisiana Police Department.”
Earlier this month, YoungBoy’s album Sincerely, Kentrell dethroned Drake’s Certified Lover Boy and took the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. With the accomplishment, the 21-year-old became the third rapper in history to have a No. 1 album while behind bars, following Lil Wayne and Tupac. Find YoungBoy’s fans’ petition here.
