For nearly three decades now, Common has delivered top tier, quality content in the booth. Since the release of his debut album Can I Borrow A Dollar? (when he was formerly known as “Common Sense”) back in 1992, he has been destined to be one of the greatest to ever touch a mic. Without a doubt, Common is one of Chicago’s finest and when it is all said and done, his legacy will be stamped as not only a lyrical tyrant, but as a humanitarian. Any time you mention the hip hop greats and omit Common’s name from the conversation, that should show everything that anyone would need to know about you and your musical taste. Today (Sept 10), the Chicago rapper drops off his latest musical project A Beautiful Revolution, Pt. 2.

Serving as the follow up to Common’s 2020 EP A Beautiful Revolution, this project is just as special and thorough — if not more. Truly a transcendent genius in the culture of hip-hop freestyle, the incomparable rapper made his return to the LIFTOFF show with the L.A. Leakers (Justin Credible and DJ Sourmilk) to cement another historical Power 106 L.A. Leakers moment. Spitting an 8 minute freestyle over Raekwon’s “Incarcerated Scarface” and Group Home’s “Living Proof,” this was a great way to build anticipation for the project. A Beautiful Revolution, Pt. 2 is rich with Afro-centric grooves and dusty drum breaks. With the spirit of James Brown weaving in and out of the pro-Black messaging, it emphasises hope and progress but still acknowledges the pain and suffering endured along the way.

Listening to this great body of work, you will see that is the soundtrack to a new revolt. It’s about unity in the face of adversity and bringing awareness to the Black struggle. But at its core it’s a celebration of Black pride that sees Common in full swing as a champion of peace, love and freedom. Press play and tell a friend that Common is back.
