This past Sunday, Kanye West — or his label — decided to surprise everyone with the long-awaited release of his tenth studio LP Donda, a project that’s already proving to be one of this year’s biggest successes despite being mired in controversy and delays over the past month. Donda comes with a healthy 27 tracks, along with a slew of high profile contributions from the likes of JAY-Z, Playboi Carti, Fivio Foreign, Westside Gunn, Ty Dolla $ign, Buju Banton, Lil Baby, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Roddy Ricch, Lil Yachty, Kid Cudi, Jay Electronica, and his late mother and album’s namesake.

Today (Sept. 2), the Chicago star reveals a new video from Donda for “Come To Life,” which sees additional production from Mike Dean, Warryn Campbell, Jeff Bhasker, and Ojivolta. The track sees West reflecting on his family and faith while lamenting about his soon-to-be-ex-wife Kim Kardashian:

“Don’t you wish the night would go numb? I’ve been feelin’ low for so long, I ain’t had a high in so long, I been in the dark for so long, night is always darkest ‘fore the dawn, gotta make my mark ‘fore I’m gone…

I don’t wanna die alone, I don’t wanna die alone, I get mad when she gone, mad when she home, sad when she gone, mad when she home, sad when she gone…”

The accompanying clip for “Come To Life” is mostly filled with footage from West’s listening session at Chicago’s Soldier Field, where he had a replica of his childhood home built in the center of the arena — adding a cross to its roof as a presumed symbol of both Donda’s subject matter and his Christian devotion. Viewers then see him in a room being set ablaze, before seeing the now well-known shot of Kim in a wedding dress.
