Lil Nas X is gearing up to release his debut studio album, Montero, on Sept. 17. On Wednesday (Aug. 25), the 22-year-old previewed a new cut off the project along with a trailer, which picks up where his video for “Industry Baby” featuring Jack Harlow left off.

In the clip, Lil Nas skips town after breaking free from prison while an alien version of himself reports on the situation. Along with the trailer, the artist also penned a note to fans about his forthcoming LP.

“Creating this album has been therapy for me,” Lil Nas tweeted about Montero. “I’ve learned to let go of trying to control people’s perception of who I am, what I can do, and where I will be. I’ve realized the only opinion of me that really matters is my own.”

Montero was preceded by several smash-hits this year, including “Industry Baby,” “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and “Sun Goes Down.” The album will follow up Lil Nas’ debut EP, 7 EP, which he dropped off in 2019 after the success of his single “Old Town Road.”

Lil Nas’ announcement about Montero also arrives after his comments about Tony Hawk’s new blood-infused skateboards. As reported by REVOLT, the pro-skater recently announced his collaboration with the company Liquid Death to release 100 limited-edition skateboards painted with his blood. Lil Nas called out the hypocrisy of those who support Hawk’s skateboards but were critical of his own blood-infused sneakers.

“Now that Tony Hawk has released skateboards with his blood painted on them, and there was no public outrage, are y’all ready to admit y’all were never actually upset over the blood in the shoes?” he wrote on Twitter. “And maybe u were mad for some other reason?”

Lil Nas previously used the shoes’ controversy and legal backlash from Nike to promote his “Industry Baby” single. See his tweet about Montero below.
